Your new partial denture has been designed to replicate the basic appearance and function of your missing teeth. While the removable oral appliance will not be susceptible to common tooth decay, it will still benefit from some daily care and cleaning. With consistency, it will help maintain a comfortable fit in your mouth, while also extending your partial denture’s lifespan.
Any time you take your partial denture out you should give it a thorough rinse under running water. Every evening you should also lightly brush all surfaces of the partial denture with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a nonabrasive toothpaste such as denture polish.
Our dentist reminds denture patients to also remove food particles and plaque buildup from any ancillary hardware components as well. After it has been thoroughly rinsed and brushed, you should soak it in denture solution and store it overnight in a drawer or medicine cabinet.
You should also pay special focus on brushing and flossing the teeth surrounding the void filled by the partial denture. Dr. Mehrnaz Iranmehr notes that preventing tooth decay and gum disease will help the unit to fit comfortably in place.
